Our team goes the extra mile to get rid of your pain and teach you keep it that way.
Andrew C. Cohen, DC, CCSP®
Dr. Cohen grew up with chiropractic and the wellness lifestyle that he now teaches his patients. His father and his aunt are chiropractors, so his professional training started years before he even started chiropractic school. He feels privileged to be part of a profession that simultaneously helps heal people and teaches them to take care of themselves.
After traveling to Bali and Uganda, and India, he settled down in the Bay Area to create a chiropractic clinic catering to active individuals who want lasting change. In the last few years he’s become very involved with Team USA and the Olympic Training Center, even working the 2016 Olympic Trials. His practice emphasizes prevention because it is more sustainable and cost effective. By teaching people to be conscious of how they treat their bodies, their health becomes a way of life rather than something that needs patching up. He takes time to talk with them about their options, helping them set health goals mindful of the fact that health is more than absence of disease.
When Dr. Cohen isn’t with patients he can be found running, snowboarding, going on hikes with his wife and giant labradoodle, oh yeah… and he’s pretty serious about thumb wrestling.

Kate Crowley, DC
As a child, Dr. Crowley experienced frequent dizziness, nausea and fatigue. She didn’t understand how her friends had enough energy to make it through the school day let alone participate in extracurricular activities. After her first visit to the chiropractor for an unrelated complaint, she felt like a fog had been lifted from her body. Along with adjustments, her chiropractor educated her on the importance of proper nutrition and appropriate exercise, things that her primary doctor and an EENT did not mention. Since changing aspects of her lifestyle, she no longer experiences these issues, and has dedicated herself to helping others feel well. Her professional goal is to help patients reach their optimum health through treatment and education so that they can spend more time doing what they love.
Dr. Crowley supplements her chiropractic care with her expertise gained through becoming certified through ACSM as a Health and Fitness Specialist and through NASM as a Fitness Nutrition Specialist. She’s also worked as a personal trainer which she loved because it afforded her one-on-one time with clients to allow for personalized instruction and education. She believes that while there are recipes for health that we all try to follow, each person is unique, therefore their journey towards health will be different.
In Dr. Crowley’s spare time, she hikes the East Bay Regional Parks with her wife and two labradors. She also enjoys weight lifting and attending A’s and Giants’ games.
How We’re Different
Our goal is unique. It’s to keep you out of the doctors office (including ours). Most healthcare practitioners think that’s a bad business model, but we know that if we keep you doing the things you love, you’ll tell your friends we’ve helped. We don’t need to see you 3x week for the rest of your life. There are too many people who really need care whom we want to help. It takes a little more time to teach patients how to be involved in their care, but the payoff is exponential.
Dr. Cohen acquired this philosophy while working in remote villages in India, Bali, and Uganda. “There, I realized it was essential to teach patients to manage their own healthcare because in some of these locations it would be weeks or even months before another doctor would be there.” he said. From there he created a team who shared this vision.
At ProActive Chiropractic, we first help to relieve pain through chiropractic adjustments and giving you home care instructions. The next step is to teach patients how to maintain and improve their general health in order to prevent further pain and disorders. We do this by integrating chiropractic and Applied Kinesiology which integrates structural, emotional, and chemical/nutrition aspects of health to find the triggers of imbalance and pain. Other tools used are blood chemistry lab testing, exercise, stress management techniques, ergonomics and posture.
Chiropractic recognizes that the body has the incredible power to heal itself. Most people merely lack the knowledge and skills to take control of their own health needs. Our goal is to help our patients acquire that vital knowledge they are seeking.
