Dr. Abraham Verghese challenges doctors-in-training at Stanford to bring back what he considers a lost art: the physical exam. He is an expert at using his senses to diagnose patients, as opposed to the more recent trend of ordering a CT scan, X-ray, or MRI right off the bat. He takes a more holistic approach to understand his patients – the old-fashioned approach of listening carefully to his patients and using his keen eyes, ears and hands.
