From Crisis to Progress: Health Care Reform, Public Health, and Women’s Preventive Service

 

Featured speakers at the opening plenary session on Health Care Reform include Dan Bernal (Office of Rep. Pelosi), Neal Kohatsu (CA Dept. of Health), Art Chen (Asian Health Services), and Larry Cohen (Prevention Institute), moderated by Sheila Proctor (UCSF, PHND, and CPHA-N). Timely and topical discussion will follow, featuring Ellen Shaffer (EQUAL and CPHA-N), Cindy Young (CNA) and Cary Sanders (CPEHN).

 

The President of the American Public Health Association, Linda Rae Murray, is the luncheon speaker. Dr. Murray is a nationally recognized voice for social justice and health care as a basic human right. She is currently Chief Medical Officer for the Cook County Department of Public Health of the Cook County Health & Hospital System in Chicago, Illinois. A dynamic speaker, Dr. Murray will address the tremendous challenges facing public health and our power to address them.

 

In the afternoon, a distinguished panel of experts will involve participants in discussions on Women’s Preventive Health Services, including reproductive health, and community and domestic violence: Terri Thorfinnson (CA Dept. of Health Care Services), Michael Policar (UCSF), Brigid McCaw (Kaiser-Permanente) and Lupe Rodriguez (Planned Parenthood).
