For the 4th year running, I am planning on supporting the many women and few men (we should have way more men involved in this event, in my personal opinion) who show up to walk 60 miles throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. This year walkers will walk throughout San Francisco, across the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin, and then into the East Bay through Oakland and Berkeley.
It’s going to be an incredible weekend. Each walker and most of the crew raises thousands of dollars which goes to the foundation. The net proceeds from the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® are invested in breast cancer research and community programs.
Being involved with these driven and empowered volunteers and walkers is inspirational. I truly love volunteering each year even if it means camping out and seeing patients starting at 5:30am and until after 9pm for 3 days. There is a special energy about this event that is similar to clinics I’ve volunteered in abroad where there is true teamwork for a common goal.
If you know someone who is walking in this year’s 3-Day tell them to come by the Sports Med tent and ask for Dr. Cohen. I’ll get them Back to Work, Back to Play and walking 60 miles is a combination of both.
