A new study shows higher muscle mass is linked with better insulin sensitivity and a lower risk of pre-diabetes. Researchers report that it’s not just the weight that matters: it is more about what proportion of your weight is muscle mass.  Higher muscle mass is reportedly associated with lower levels of insulin resistance, which is a precursor to developing Type 2 diabetes.

The study was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism in July 2011.
