In addition to Chiropractic, we have also a background in Kinesiology. Kinesiology helps us assess how your muscles are firing and detect improper movement patterns that cause pain.  Chiropractic helps address the joint imbalances and kinesiology helps with resetting muscle memory and therefore they work very well together.

Let’s dive into some common questions about Kinesiology:

What is a Kinesiologist?

Kinesiologists are health professionals who are trained and certified to develop programs to prevent and manage injuries. Their goals primarily include increasing performance and reducing injuries. Kinesiologists use muscle testing to diagnose structural, chemical, and emotional imbalances in the body. They work under the premise that the body innately has its own healing ability and is constantly working to find homeostasis (a stability, balance, or equilibrium within the body), but may need some assistance in achieving this balanced state.

Most kinesiologists are involved in medical research but they often work alongside rehabilitative specialist, massage therapists, and acupuncturists due to their expertise in the musculoskeletal system. Their job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and correcting imbalances in the body
  • Treating structural, chemical, and emotional imbalances using different techniques and modalities
  • Developing a care plan and therapeutic exercise routine to prevent injury
  • Providing an ergonomic assessment for proper biomechanics in the work field
  • Manage, monitor, and facilitate rehabilitation plans for patients
  • Support patients in alleviating and coping with body dysfunctions
  • Give nutritional advice to decrease inflammation and promote hormone balance

Is a kinesiologist a doctor?

In order to become a Kinesiologist, one must earn at least a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from a four year program and complete a certification exam. Some Kinesiologists might continue on with additional education, e.g. schooling, =which includes a doctorate, earning them a doctor title. It. Thus, it is important to look at the degrees obtained by the kinesiologist to determine if they are a doctor or not.

Is Applied Kinesiology Legitimate?

Muscle testing or Applied Kinesiology has been proven to be safe and reasonable and is an accepted medical evaluation used by many practitioners to diagnose musculoskeletal and visceral ailments. Applied Kinesiology has been proven credible on a small scale. There have been plenty of case studies, clinical experiences, and testimonials that offer legitimacy in this practice. However, there has not been extensive randomized research to prove its legitimacy on a broad scale by itself. At ProActive Chiropractic, Applied Kinesiology is part of our service offerings to better serve you as our patient. It works very well in addition with Chiropractic.

What Are Some Benefits of Applied Kinesiology?

By thoroughly and methodically checking your muscles, applied kinesiology  works to identify stress as well as control both your mental and physical well-being. And whilst there are a great amount of different chiropractic practices out there, applied kinesiology hones in on one main benefit for your overall well-being: your therapeutic potential.

Benefits for the Body
The practice targets your body as a whole, rather than putting a singular emphasis on an individual body part. Once a problem area arises within a muscular tissue, applied kinesiology focuses on finding a symbiotic way to bring the weakened muscle back on track together with the rest of the body.

Kinesiologists also work to tease out and identify which, if any, muscle imbalances are causing disruptions in and throughout your body. Upon having the muscle strength evaluated, the practitioner will be able to work to balance the muscle firing so you can perform better and avoid common injuries that occur as a result of one area overworking and another not working.  This is done through manipulations, as well as rubbing and using pressure points.

Benefits for the Mind
Through lymphatic pressure and massage, the practice doesn’t only work to remove blockages, but also to re-balance the muscle alignment and the foundation on which we base our daily lives. As a result of this, the patient is left feeling recharged and calibrated for the stresses that modern living can place on our shoulders.
