No surprises. No sitting in a waiting room trying to organize every potentially important detail so that this time the doctor will actually listen and trust you. You'll know what to expect, what to bring, and what actually happens.

Most first visits elsewhere go like this: you describe your pain, someone presses on the painful area, you get treated, you leave. That's not what happens here.
What usually does happen elsewhere falls into one of three patterns. The first is passive avoidance: come back in six weeks if it doesn't resolve on its own. Rest, ice, ibuprofen. As if the pattern creating the problem will simply stop on its own. The second is the generic protocol: the same exercise handout, the same adjustment sequence, the same treatment plan regardless of what walked in the door — because the system rewards throughput, not diagnosis. The third is ageist dismissal: you're told the problem is your age, and the prescription is to stop doing the thing you love. Just stop playing tennis. Just stop running. As if the goal of care is to lower your expectations rather than restore your function. Dr. Cohen has spent a lot of time on his YouTube channel breaking down why each of these fails — worth watching if you've experienced any of them. The short version: none of them is a diagnosis.
The Body Intelligence Assessment™ is a full systems diagnostic. It starts before you walk in the door. You leave the first visit adjusted and feeling better — and understanding what's actually been going on in your body. The second visit is where Dr. Cohen presents your Body Intelligence Map and lays out a care plan for getting you clear of what brought you in.
Most people have no real record of their body's past — just a patchwork of symptoms, quick fixes, and conflicting advice. We've designed a step-by-step process to help you map your body's full history: what it's carried, how it's compensated, and what it's still trying to tell you. A review this thorough gives Dr. Cohen the full picture that fragmented care was never designed to provide — and that's where the real patterns emerge.
This is where we turn on muscle groups that have been compensating instead of cooperating. We'll make adjustments, release long-held tension, and show you how your body actually wants to move. You'll see where you're overcompensating, what's working too hard, and what's been offline without you even knowing.
In the days between your first and second sessions, we watch what your body holds onto — and what it reverts to. What stays? What doesn't? This is how we observe your system integrating change.
By the second session, the deeper patterns begin to emerge. This is where we move beyond the surface and start listening for what your body isn't saying out loud — the compensations it's been making, the places you've been overriding instead of recalibrating. We take what we've observed during incubation and connect the dots between movement, history, and compensation patterns. This is the beginning of true re-patterning — addressing not just where it hurts, but why it hurts, and how to shift it for good.
Our ongoing sessions are where change becomes permanent. Every session treats what's active and builds your ability to read what your body is communicating. Running through all of it is the ProActive Protocol™ — Dr. Cohen's muscle testing method, applied at every step throughout every session to test, adjust, and confirm that what he's doing is actually landing. You'll begin to move more freely, breathe more fully, and know what you're feeling and why — not just in isolated moments, but over time. You'll leave not only with physical shifts, but with language and clarity around what's happening inside your system and how to support it between sessions.
A few things that make a real difference to the quality of your visit — and to Dr. Cohen's ability to show up prepared.
You'll receive it through our booking system after scheduling. Do it well before your appointment — not in the car, not in the waiting room. Dr. Cohen reads it before you arrive. That's the whole point. It's what lets him walk in oriented instead of starting from scratch. Patients who do it properly get more out of the first visit. Patients who don't lose time and leave with less.
No perfume, cologne, scented lotion, or strongly scented products before your visit. Fragrance lingers in a treatment room — and roughly 1 in 7 Americans has a sensitivity. It's a small thing that makes a real difference.
Imaging — X-rays, MRI, anything you have — bring it. Bring your running or training shoes if you're a runner, cyclist, or athlete. Wear pattern analysis is part of the foot and gait assessment and it tells a story that no form can. Old reports, previous diagnoses, physical therapy notes — all fair game. More information, better picture.
The assessment involves movement. Wear something you can actually move in — athletic wear, comfortable layers. There's a changing room if you need it, and we keep shorts on hand if you forget.
Not a sales line. We're confident enough in our diagnostic process to back it. Most patients leave their first visit understanding their bodies better — not just feeling temporary relief, but knowing why something has been happening and seeing a path to fixing it.
We won't undo in one visit the patterns your body has been running for years. What we will do is make sure you feel genuinely heard by someone who can read what your body is actually doing — and leave with real clarity about what's been going on.
If that's not your experience, we'll refund your first visit in full.
Most people assume being in-network is an advantage. Dr. Cohen doesn't think it incentivizes the best care. When a patient pays cash and doesn't get results, they don't come back — which means every visit has to earn the next one. That forces the provider to bring their A game, every time.
In-network practices don't just bill insurance — they're organized around it. A significant portion of clinical overhead goes to coding compliance, prior authorization, insurance appeals, and billing staff. That's time and attention that doesn't go to patients, to continuing education, or to staying current with the evidence. Dr. Cohen has none of that infrastructure. The time it would take to fight with an insurance company about a denied claim goes into the next patient's care instead.
There's also something worth naming about what insurance actually delivers. The coverage feels like a benefit until you look closely at what's being covered — typically the adjustment, and not much else. The diagnostic work, the soft tissue release, the time to actually listen: these don't have billing codes that insurance pays well for, so they get abbreviated or cut. You're not getting a discount on full care. You're getting full payment for partial care.
Insurance typically covers only the adjustment — the crack — while everything else that makes the work hold gets left out: the soft tissue release, the corrective movement, the diagnostic work, the patient education. ProActive is modeled on sideline sports care — where the job is to get the athlete back on the field using whatever tools it takes. For you, that means every visit is built around getting you back to what you want to be doing. What's best for your outcomes, not what's covered best. Many patients use FSA or HSA accounts — pre-tax dollars, no friction. We provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement if your plan supports it; your insurance company reimburses you directly. Dr. Cohen can also order labs and imaging directly, without the referral lag or cost inflation of going through insurance. Pricing is listed when you book online.
If your situation is genuinely complex (years of failed treatment, a diagnosis that hasn't held up, something that's stumped multiple providers), book a focused 10-minute conversation with Dr. Cohen for $100 before committing to a full visit. If you decide to book, that $100 applies toward your first visit.
This is a real clinical assessment, not a sales call. If we can help you, we'll tell you why and what it would look like. If we're not the right fit, we'll point you somewhere better.
One requirement: your Health Autobiography™ must be completed and submitted at least 24 hours before you come in. Dr. Cohen reviews it before every appointment, including this one — it's what makes the conversation useful. Without it, we'll release the spot to someone who's ready.
"I've seen five providers and nobody has been able to tell me what's actually happening."
